Course Profile
Doctoral School of Humanities and Social Sciences of UG offers its candidates an opportunity to prepare a doctoral dissertation in two fields of science: humanities (in the disciplines of: archaeology, history, philosophy, linguistics, literary studies, culture and religion studies, arts studies, Polish studies) and social sciences (in the disciplines of: economics and finance, management and quality studies, social and economic geography and spatial management, political science and public administration, law, sociology, education, psychology). During the enrolment process a candidate selects a discipline in which he or she plans to specialise and prepare a doctoral dissertation. The Doctoral School provides a supervisory care over doctoral students (details in the potential thesis advisors database) as well as support in reaching the study effects required to obtain a doctoral degree. The organisation of education in the Doctoral School is specified by the Regulations of Doctoral Schools of the University of Gdańsk and the framework education programme.
A candidate may be admitted to the doctoral school on the condition of holding a Master’s degree or its equivalent. Education in the doctoral school lasts for 48 months and is free of charge. Every doctoral student receives a scholarship (a monthly stipend). The doctoral school together with establishing faculties provides not only the financial support but also access to advanced scientific programmes, expert academic staff and modern research infrastructure. Thanks to that, doctoral students have an opportunity to conduct ambitious research projects, which can have a significant impact on the development of science.
