Course Description
Course Profile
The Data and Society bachelor’s programme explores the complex relationships between data, technology, and contemporary social challenges. Combining sociology, data science, statistics, programming, and critical social analysis, the programme prepares students to understand, analyse, and interpret data in its full social, economic, and political context. The curriculum focuses on three major areas: work and the digital economy, urban development and smart cities, and migration and mobility. Students learn how data shapes labour markets, urban life, governance, inequality, and social change. Special emphasis is placed on ethical reflection, critical thinking, and responsible data use.
Who is it for?
This programme is ideal for students who are interested in data analysis combined with social sciences, want to understand how technology influences society, cities, work, and migration, seek careers in policy analysis, research, NGOs, and international organizations, value critical thinking, ethics, and social responsibility, and want to work in international and interdisciplinary environments.
It is especially suitable for candidates who want more than purely technical data science and prefer a human-centred, socially engaged approach to data.
Why choose us?
The Data and Society bachelor’s programme offers a rare opportunity to study data in its real social context, preparing graduates for complex analytical and strategic roles through a unique combination of sociology, data science and critical technology studies; a human‑centred approach to data rather than a technocratic or purely computational perspective; a strong ethical and social focus; flexible study paths with thematic blocks such as work, city, migration and data; and access to cutting‑edge sociological research.
